Wellington Zoo Guide: Spend Less, Do More

Welcome to Wellington Zoo

200 Daniell Street, Newtown, Wellington 6021, New Zealand

Wellington Zoo is located in Wellington, and is considered one of the city's main attractions, especially for families with small children.

Wellington Zoo is a well-maintained facility that's committed to conservation, research and its work with endangered species.

The zoo features a wide collection of native and exotic wildlife including lions and chimpanzees in outdoor parks. A favourite amongs the "ankle biters" is the nocturnal kiwi house. A major feature offered by the zoo is 'zoo encounters' in which visitors can hand-feed some of the animals including giraffes and the red pandas.

A new addition is the Tropical River Trail which recreates a rainforest habitat with birds and several species of primates.

In the warm months of February and March, the zoo holds 'Wild Summer Nights', comprising evening picnics and jazz or blues music.

Make sure you get to the gates early on weekends as it tends to get busy, especially when the weather is good.
