Willowbank Wildlife Reserve showcases wildlife in their natural environments with the focus on native animals. Located four miles north of the city, the reserve is home to local fauna such as wallabies, deer and alpacas. It also houses the country's most extensive collection of Kiwi birds in its nocturnal house.

There are daily tours and Maori performances are held in the evenings.
