Wanaka in review
On New Zealand’s South Island, right at the southern end of Lake Wanaka, you’ll find Wanaka – a city that is a perfect getaway, no matter what time of year it is!
Because it is surrounded by mountains, Wanaka is a popular place for skiers and snowboarders. In fact, the nearby town of Cardrona is totally dedicated to these winter sports! Located about 30 minutes south of Wanaka, Cardrona has been a favourite for snowy sports since the gold rush in the 1800’s.
If you’d rather go cross-country skiing, then Waiorau is the perfect place for you. Home to New Zealand’s cross-country skiing, Waiorau is perfect for beginners and experts. And, since it’s only a few minutes outside of Wanaka, you won’t have to travel far to get there!
But if you’re more into warmer activities, Wanaka has them, too! In fact, many of the hotels in Wanaka overlook Roys Bay, so you won’t be far from the water. Whether you want to go skydiving, fly fishing, or simply just sit on the banks of Lake Wanaka, you can do it all.
If you are looking for an amazing adrenaline rush, go canyoning. That way, you can slide, glide, and jump through streams, peaks, and valley. There are a variety of different streams to canyon in – depending on your experience and your fitness levels.
