Tauranga is in the Bay of Plenty in the North Island of New Zealand - and there is plenty to do in this busy port city. You’ll find a great mix of peaceful serenity, along with great shopping, dining, and outdoor activities.
Take a step back in time, and learn more about Tauranga's history at the Historic Village on 17th. It's a functioning village set amid original and replica buildings of yesteryear.
You can watch the dolphins in the Bay of Plenty on a dolphin "seafari" expedition! On some of these expeditions, you can even hop in the water and swim with these majestic creatures!
For more water fun, go on a kayaking adventure on the Wairoa River! This scenic spot offers great views - all from the comfort of a dry, stable kayak. market is popular with locals - and it gives visitors a chance to learn more about the local culture.
For delicious food and drinks, make a stop at one of Tauranga's most popular landmarks - Mills Reef Winery & Restaurant. This winery literally has it all! 20 acres of landscaped grounds, underground barrel cellars, tasting areas, a large restaurant, and even full winemaking and bottling facilities!
Go on a shopping spree at Mount Maungaui's main street. The Downtown area of the Mount is just around the corner from the Port of Tauranga and is home to almost 200 different stores and 50 eateries! Look for fun boutiques, unique souvenir shops, sporty surf wear shops, and art galleries on your visit.
You can stay close to Mount Maunganui, thanks to all of the motor inns, hotels, and motels along Maunganui Road. Or, you can stay a little further inland. You'll still be close to all of the crystal-blue waters with the Waihi Road or Cameron Road options. If you're OK with being even further inland, look on Moffat Road or Bell Street.
