Palmerston North in review
Situated on New Zealand’s North Island, there is plenty to see and do in Palmerston North. And, luckily, you don’t have to travel very far to experience any of it!
There is a buzz of activity throughout the city because Palmerston North has a younger crowd of locals – mainly because the city is home to a variety of colleges and universities, including Massey University.
Right in the middle of the city, you will find the Square. Inside, you will find acres and lakes that are so peaceful that you will forget that you’re amongst the hustle and bustle!
Palmerston North is also home to the Manawatu Gorge and River. If you’re looking for a place to relax and enjoy the view, this is the spot. But if you’re looking for something more adventurous, the Manawatu Gorge and River has that, too. While you’re there, you can go bridge swinging, horseback riding, and rafting.
If you’re a sports fan, head to the New Zealand Rugby Museum. Inside, you will find tons of memorabilia, including some of the sport’s oldest and rarest rugby artefacts.
About half an hour due west of Palmerston North, you will find Himatangi Beach – home to some of the area’s best fishing and swimming. Plus, the sunsets there can’t be beat!
If you’re looking for a centralised place to stay, there is a wide assortment of Palmerston North hotels just south of the downtown area. If you’re looking for something quieter, you can find rooms stretched all the way to Himatangi Beach.
