Napier in review
Located on North Island’s eastern side, Napier is one of New Zealand’s biggest cities. And, since it’s right on Hawke Bay, it is also one of the country’s biggest seaports.
One of the biggest exports in Napier is wine. In fact, Napier and its outlying areas are home to some of New Zealand’s best grapes. You can experience them for yourself at any of the area’s many wineries.
You can find a great selection of wine tours in Taradale, one of Napier’s most popular suburbs. Located about 10 km south of Napier, Taradale is home to about 1/3 of Napier’s residents. Along with houses, you’ll find a number of locally-owned wineries.
Or, if you’re not into wine, check out the other produce that the area is famous for – like its apples and pears.
For the best look at the region, head to Te Mata Peak. Once you get to the top, you will be able to see everything that Napier has to offer – from quiet vineyards to bustling city.
If you want to take on Napier’s nature in a more adventurous setting, go white water rafting. You can see everything up close and personal as you battle the rapids on the Mohaka River.
Just outside of Napier’s central business district, you will find Ahuriri.. Here, architects have combined old with new. You will see historic fishermen’s cottages right next to trendy, new apartments. Ahuriri is also home to a boardwalk that’s a great place to eat, shop, or simply enjoy the view. Plus, Ahuriri is also home to several of the hotels in Napier.
