Hastings Guide
Hastings is one of New Zealand’s sunniest spots, and a great place for winegrowing! That’s why Hastings is known as the area’s “fruit bowl.” While you’re there, enjoy the fertile rolling plains that extend all the way to the coast! As an added benefit, beautiful Spanish Mission-style architecture can be seen throughout the city.
Of course, you have to spend some time in Hastings going wine tasting! The Hawkes Bay region is New Zealand’s oldest winemaking region. There are more than 40 wineries to visit here - most of which can be found on the western side of town.
Hastings is also the perfect place for a walk! Take a short stroll around Te Mata Peak, or make it an overnight trek through the ranges
If you like the great outdoors, Hastings is perfect for you! You can catch trout in the Tuki Tuki River. Or try horse trekking, paragliding, kayaking or mountain biking!
If you've got the kids with you, they will love an afternoon at Splash Planet Fun Park.
Even if it's not warm enough for water fun, you can still ride the train at the Keirunga Park Railway. The 846-metre track showcases the model engineering of area train enthusiasts.
Or, take the kids on a tour of the Seahorse Farm. It’s considered one of the best tours in town!
Hastings is home to some great honey, and you can learn it at the Arataki Honey Visitor Centre. There, you'll learn about the 10 different kinds of honey and even see the bees that make them!
There are some nice selections of hotels, motels and motor inns along Railway Road. Or, the options on Heretaunga Street will put you in a great spot that's near many of the local attractions. If you want to be closer to the water, look on Browning Street or Clifton Road in the Hawkes Bay area.
